Covid-19 Threat

A new threat has hit us. Not just one or two countries, but the entire world. A "new" virus that seems to attack the vulnerable (those with existing conditions), and the elderly. A vaccine is being developed, but no one know, yet, when it may be completed. In the mean time, many are dying from this virus.
There is also much controversy about lock downs. Some say that lock downs are effective nd help to slow the sprread of the viurs. Others say that lock downs are not good, and actually help the virus inflict eben more damage. It is obviously a topic of hot discussion around the world, as each country tries to deal with this the best that they can. There are many brieifings given; Some which agree, and some which conflict, on what should be done, and the right way to go about it. I  will refrain from giving my own opinions, as I  do not want to bias anyone.

As of today, 20 Apr 2020, we, here in the Philippines (in my area) have been in lock down for about three weeks. It is not scheduled to end until 30 Apr, at which time it will either lessen, or it will be extended. As of now, we have NO cases of Covid-19 in our area. That is not true of the Manila (Captial city) are, where there are thousands of cases. We are allowed to go to the market (to town) twice a week, on scheduled days. There are checkpoints along the way, and if it isn't your day, you will be turned around and sent home. If you need to purchase medicine, or get money for an emergency, you can get a special pass to do so. There are many "checked" vendors that come door to door, selling their food items. We can easily buy rice, veggies, fruits, fish, pork, and other food items. The little local stores stock up, on their days, with essential/non-essential items, such as tootpaste, soap, shampoo, salt, cigarettes, spices, soda, etc...So, we are not hurting very badly. There is a full licquor ban in effect, and you cannot buy or sell any alcoholic drinks. There is a HUGE fine if you get caught (so don't get caught!). But, the one thing that weighs on everyone the most is a lack of freedom to do what you want, or need, when you want. It's tough, but it's part of the "battle" to beat the virus.

The main controversy, other than the virus itself, is the economy. Many people are, of course, suffering for being unable to work, or draw an income. Many countries do not have workers insurance, paid leave, or any other type program that will help them. Unfortunately, this is a price, some say, that must be paid to keep the virus in check, and finally get past it. Most economies, if allowed to come back some time soon, will be ok. They will rebound. But, the longer it takes to get past this virus, the harder it will be. Some countries economies are already in real danger, and may not be able to make it thru. For others, their lifestyles and economy may forever be changed.

Of course, we hope to stay Covid free in our area, but that won't be the end of it. If none of us are exposed, thereby building up immunity, then we are all still susceptible to taching it. So, the main concern for many is the development of the vaccine. Skipping the political side of things, most of the world is hoping to hit the peak, go down the other side, and get this under control, allowing us to go back to as much of our normal lives as is possible.

It should go without saying that all of us should do our part, do what we can, to get past this as soon as possible.Let's all keep the faith and stay strong!

It's a cool blue sky above!
