Night Life

There are two types of night life here in the P.I. The first one is the family style night life. Typical of families all over the world, they gather together, especially for the evening meal, to eat and talk.  This "family" may include other brothers and sisters or their nieces and nephews. It is very common for their brothers or sisters children to eat at their aunt or uncles house, sometimes on a daily basis.  This is especially true for school age children, who usually have to walk to school, and their relatives house is much close at lunch time.  There is no hesitation here when this happens, as they consider it a part of the family duty. In this type of society, the children grow up with numerous "moms and dads", so to speak. They grow up talking and sharing their feelings with their related family as openly as they would talk with their own parents. This style of life has many advantages that, I think, are quite obvious. It does have some drawbacks too, but I think you can figure out what they would be.
The second style of night life is very much different.  As you may figure, it involves the wild side, and partying. Depending on the area where you visit or live, this night life can range from running the local clubs with your friends, then going as far as whole districts or towns that are devoted to this lifestyle.  Obviously they do it mostly for monetary reasons.  There are areas here, like in Angeles City, Olongapo, and parts of Manila, that are full of clubs, and cater to foreigners. The clubs range from nasty dives up to really good, modern, fancy bars. Almost anything goes there, and it is NOT a place to take kids. I admit that, in my younger years, I visited those areas many, many times. It's hard to resist, as they offer pool, darts, lots of girls, and beer.  A deadly combination that men find very hard to ignore. If you want to buy cigarettes, or food, or gum, all you have to do is tell the waitress, and they will send someone to get it for you.  You don't have to go anywhere. All in all, it becomes a man's paradise, especially for the single, loose footed guys. It goes without saying, I hope, that it can also be very, very dangerous. Again, if you go, take a local with you.  They are allowed in some clubs ONLY if they are with a foreigner.  Weird, isn't it. But the truth is the foreigners will spend big bucks, and the local won't. Therefore, not good for business.

It's a cool blue sky above!
