Still ABout Filipino Food

Another popular fish here is tilapia.  It was eaten here long before it started to show up in the States.  It's a fun little fish to catch, as it's aggressive and fights alot.  Unlike the bangus, which is sleek and shiny, the tilapia has sharp fins and rough scales.  But those of you who know fish already know that.  I grew up in Texas catching bass and catfish, so I know all about sharp fins, and aggressive fish. It's cooked here in soups and stews and on the grill, and every which way. My wife is a fishermans daughter so she is pretty much an expert on local fish. There are other popular local fish, but we'll skip that for now.

Of course they are big on crabs, shrimp and clams; giant prawns included.  They dig their own clams out and boil them up. I only have to walk about a hundred yards from where I am sitting to dig up clams.  My wife's favorite is a big crab.  She eats every piece of meat or anything else that is edible (brains). I don't eat them myself, growing up as a meat and potatoes guy, and not changing that much. I'm not much of a seafood person but I love sizzling shrimp or prawn.  Especially the very big prawns, sizzling with butter and garlic. Man; makes me hungry!

My wife took baking classes, so I get to eat all her projects.  I get my fill of cakes, rolls, muffins, and even homemade pizza.  We have different tastes in food, so every day she cooks what I will eat, and cooks something else for the rest of the family if it involves seafood. It's sounds like a pain, and it is for her I'm sure. But I'm the boss, so I say what goes on here!  (I hope she doesn't read this!) If you like seafood, then this is a place you want to visit. If you like beef, it certainly is not. Their cows look like scrawny big dogs compared to a Texas cow. Then they have very large lizards here, espcially in my area, called bayawak, which are about about two to five feet long and a bit dangerous.  Of course, it's a delicacy, and many people eat them. You're really not supposed to, because it's kind of against the law, but it happens. Yes, I've eaten them too. You darn sure don't catch them with your hands!  They're a bit poisonous!

It's a cool blue sky above!
