Protecting Your Rights

You have the right to own guns. You have the right to carry guns, in some states. You have the right protect yourself and your family. You have the right to do many things concerning guns.  But you do NOT have the right to shoot someone in cold blood, especially innocent people, and most especially, children! Most people, when they get to the stage of actually considering shooting people, are not concerned with any of these rights. They don't care about your rights, or the law. Or even their rights. They are past that stage. Could we have prevented what happened in Vegas?  Or in any other situation before that? Maybe. Maybe not.
When they were reporting this tragedy on TV, many people go through certain thought processes. The first thought may be, "Oh, my God! That's awful! How could this happen?" The next thought may be, "I'm glad I wasn't there!". Followed by, " I hope no one I know was there!". All very normal thoughts. Then the most important thought comes; "Why did he do this?" "What reason could he have that could make him hurt all these people?" That's the real question, isn't it? Was it because they were happy and having a good time, and he was a miserable person? Was it because he wanted to "make a name" for himself? Who knows? I don't!
But the real question to me, that everyone seems to be side-stepping, is how does this guy end up with an arsenal of weapons at home, plus explosives, and not a single person notices anything? They are already addressing the issue of how he got so many weapons inside the casino/hotel. How does someone end up with so many guns? Maybe they were illegal, or purchased in a back alley. Who knows? If he were my neighbor, I would know. There are many signs, if you are looking. Agitation, stress, sulking, snide remarks, visible depression, and many others. And if I knew he had numerous weapons in his house, then, to me that's a big red flag that needs to be waived. I'm not talking about ratting out your neighbor, I'm talking about keeping people alive. One of the people he shot could be your relative, or friend, and you could have helped avoid this.  I hope that's not the case. I truly hope so!

Either way, many people have lost their lives, and many of their family members are suffering their loss. Once again, a GUN, (or many guns) was the culprit. Anyone, anywhere, who can get that much ammunition, and no one bothers to ask why, is bound to do something bad. Nobody needs 300 rounds to "sight in" their gun. Buying ammunition, for any gun, should have set limits. Any store or outlet that does not strictly follow these rules should be shut down immediately.
I like guns as well as anyone. I have owned numerous guns in my life, and am trained to shoot many others. Even when we are fighting a war, we don't carry that much ammunition personally! So maybe one answer would be to limit the amount of ammunition sold and made. Or even a limited exchange of shells. If you buy a box of cartridges, and shoot them up at whatever, you could bring in the empty casings in order to buy more. Proof that you are not stockpiling.  Just an idea. I know many people "make" their own cartridges.  That's cool. But it has to have limits, too. How do you limit it? Limit the sales of casings, powder, and lead, of course. I know many will not like these ideas at all. They will ask why we are limiting them if they are obeying the law? It is not about limiting you; it's about limiting the potential of stupid people to go berserk and kill 60 people!

It's a cool blue sky above!
