Sports Salaries

Changing tactics on you here. I'm gonna go for a totally different subject. Potatoes!  No, I'm kidding! How about sports salaries!  I am a big time sports fan, but, come on!  Don't you think they're just a bit overpaid? They're playing a game!  A game! It seems a bit odd to me that a military person can put his life on the line, literally, for $25k a year, but a basketball player, who runs around dribbling a ball and making cereal commercials, makes $20 million a year? Why? Because they sell products? Yep! That's the whole ball game right there. A military guy can't sell a plane, or sell weapons (not legally anyway), or sell tennis shoes.  But a basketball player can sell food, shoes, uniforms, underwear, and everything else. They don't get paid just because they are athletic.  There are a lot more athletic people in the military than in the NBA.  They sell stuff!  They are seen all over the TV, making them popular to the kids, so the kids will want to be like them because they drive cool cars, and have money to waste. Well, who doesn't want that life style?  I  do! But a military person who protects your life daily, risks mines and RPG's, fights the enemy on their own soil, and goes through years of training; well, they just aren't that popular. It is taken for granted that it's their job. No highlight reels, no endorsements, no frills and fancy cars. When you look at it that way, it doesn't seem quite right, does it?
But, even tho I say all this, I still enjoy watching a good NBA or NFL game. I'm just putting it all into perspective. Many of the professional level players show respect for the military.  They should.  We are the ones who give them the freedom to play games. Many players do not give a proper nod to the military.  We should be allowed to strip off their jersey, hand them a gun, and give them an area to patrol day and night.  They might gain some respect that way. They might say that they don't have to do that. Why don't they? Because somebody died to give them the right to say no. All in all, the priorities of the world are really screwed up, but I don't see anything changing. So, lets have a beer and enjoy the game! Someone's paying the price for it!

It's a cool blue sky above!
